My Three Joys

I knew it was only a matter of time. Remember me telling you about our poor Christmas tree that had been the center of Klaus and Dietrich’s attention when we first put it up? Well it is official, our Christmas tree has seen its better days. Thursday morning Jake woke up to a crashing sound and saw that our cats succeeded in knocking it over. 😦 It is still standing, but is now void of any ornaments and has a couple of holes where the cats have decided to climb into the tree. Thankfully the tree is a pre-lit on, so we are still able to have pretty white lights on the tree.

Decorated tree or not, Christmas is still alive. Jake and I thankfully have all of our Christmas shopping done and excited for what this week has in store for us. It will be a super busy week filled with making A TON of homemade beef jerky for family, my fourth batch of cookies, several Christmas parties to attend and a busy week at work.  I am ready!

Number One

Christmas came early in the Bouma household! My mom, being the super cute mom that she is, sent Jake and I our Christmas gifts early. Jake and I being the little kids we are at heart, couldn’t wait to open them up.

Among the wonderful gifts Jake and I received, my mom certainly knows me well when she wrapped these up…

Can you believe that I don’t own a single cookie cutter?  I have always been scared to make  cut out sugar cookies for fear of messing them up somehow. Very strange, I know. When I saw these in their box, I immediately accepted my own challenge of giving them a try. I have done a little research and super excited to try my hand at making Christmas Sugar Cookies.  Thanks mom! Stay tuned for how they turn out!

Number Two

Yesterday Jake and I, along with 20 other people, celebrated the Bouma family Christmas. Jake’s father and stepmom host the annual event at their home every year. Not only was their super good food to graze on throughout the day, but a lot of good conversations, and of course Yahtzee games being won. (By me of course)!

This was my second year at the annual Bouma event, and I have to say, it does not disappoint. It was fun seeing his side of the family again and catching up. With so many people in attendance, each person is responsible for bringing a gift of their gender to exchange with whomever draws your name. I brought a wonderful mix of fun soap, lotion and spray scents from Bath and Body Works as my gift. In exchange, I left with a super soft and cozy pillow and blanket set, cozy slippers and a $10 gift card to Barnes and Noble. That gift was destined to be mine.

Number Three

Jake and I were able to have our weekly date night this week and we were both super excited to spend it with a crowd of people who were also pumped to see Mission Impossible IV!

With a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, this movie lived up to that rating. MI IV was action packed, humorous and literally had me  jumping out of my seat at a couple of scenes. Watching this movie while indulging in salty, buttery popcorn, peanut M&M’s and a nice cold soda was perfect. If you are looking for a good movie to go see, I highly recommend this one!

Well, dinner is waiting patiently for me in the crock pot. I hope all of you have a wonderful week!
